Case pending before the Court of Rome for damages for the refoulement of 5 Eritrean nationals to Libya carried out by the ship “Asso 29” of the company Augusta Offshore with the coordination of the Italian authorities. On 2 July 2018, the Italian authorities requested and coordinated the intervention of the ‘Asso Ventinove’ in the rescue operations launched by a Libyan patrol vessel against 150 foreign nationals of mainly Eritrean, Somali and Sudanese nationalities. The ship brought the people back to Tripoli and handed them over to the Libyan authorities. The migrants were illegally detained and subjected to abuse and torture in Libya.
