The Border Violence Monitoring Network (BVMN) submitted crucial evidence of pushbacks and limited access to asylum in Greece, Croatia, and Slovenia for the 2023 Rule of Law Report. BVMN emphasizes the need for independent and comprehensive Rule of Law Reports with consequences for breaches. Pushbacks and lack of access to asylum breach the rule of law and fundamental rights. BVMN calls for an Independent Monitoring Mechanism with power and accountability to address violations at the borders. The Rule of Law Reports’ scope should be extended to include these issues and thoroughly consider input from civil society.
