At around 10:00 p.m. on Thursday October 13th, a group of five people, including one woman, all from India, arrived at the Hungarian border fence. After climbing the fence, the group only got about twenty metres before three officers, described as Hungarian military officers stopped them. According to the respondent, the officers wore camouflage clothing. The officers then reportedly instructed to group to sit on their knees and to raise their hands in the air; they then proceeded to take items from the members’ pockets and backpacks, including their phones and approximately 1500 euros in cash. The officers also cut the members’ shoelaces and some of their clothing and then assaulted them with batons and kicked them. One officer told the group:
“If you come again, we will kill you.”
Six Hungarian border patrol officers then reportedly arrived, who escorted the group into a Rendorseg van. The respondent said that the officers did not take them to a police station but instead returned them directly to Serbia. In total, the group spent about three hours in Hungary.
