After traveling through Turkey to Bulgaria to Serbia together, the three men arrived at the Serbian border town of Loznica on the banks of the Drina River – which acts as a natural border between Serbia and Bosnia. The respondent – one of the three Moroccan men – indicated that, at an unspecified time on the evening of 26 September, his transit group attempted to cross the Serbian-Bosnian border by climbing the M14.1 bridge over the Drina.
He recounted that the uniformed men located on the bridge used tear gas on two members of the transit group to prevent them from entering Bosnia territory, leaving the third individual unharmed. Upon further inquiry, he identified the uniformed men as Bosnian police officials wearing dark blue uniforms. The police then pushed the transit group back to the outskirts of Loznica. The respondent identified a crossing on Road No. 26 (44°32’9.751’’N, 19°10’59.462’’E) as the location where police pushed them back to, roughly 500 meters away from the bridge.
The police did not use any other means of physical violence, detain the members of the transit group, or take any personal information.
