Between October 2018 and early 2019, the applicant who is a Syrian national attempted to cross from Bosnia to Croatia to escape the inhumane conditions present in the Bosnian refugee camps. He along with other refugees were pushed back six times by armed Croatian officers, who used pepper spray on the group crossing the border and subjected them to beatings and electric shocks. Each time they were ordered to go back to Bosnia, and no individual assessment of their asylum claims was made.
