Our Data
BVMN seeks to document and denounce border violence and human rights violations by re-centering lived experiences through the collection of testimonies.
The testimonies collected by trained reporters make up the BVMN open databases. The Pushbacks database contains all testimonies describing informal and illegal expulsions. In the Violence Within State Borders database, you will find accounts of other types of violence perpetrated against people on the move, such as arbitrary detention, evictions or pullbacks. Though some of this violence doesn’t take place at the borders of the countries, it is still an essential part of the European border regime and marks the everyday life of people on the move.
These testimonies provide evidence of the human rights violations perpetrated by the states as part of the racist European migration policies and aim to serve to hold those responsible accountable. You will find filters and an option to extract relevant data in both testimonies databases.
Moreover, since 2022, we update and maintain a Legal Action Database on pushbacks and other types of border violence which compiles pending cases and judgments from national courts, the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the EU, and from UN Committees.
We hope they can be a useful tool to support your work too.
