The respondent, an Afghan man aged between 30 and 40, was traveling with a transit group consisting of four individuals, three of whom were minors, all from Afghanistan.

Their encounter with authorities occurred around 6:00 PM on the 4th of November, 2020, at the scanners at the Horgoš border crossing, where they were apprehended by two policemen. Initially, there was no police car present. The officers escorted them to a nearby room and demanded camp ID cards. While one member of the group provided their ID, another attempted to conceal theirs. Upon discovery, the officers subjected the individual to brutal beatings and kicks to the torso and head, which lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Following the assault, they were detained at the police station for two hours without access to food, water, or restroom facilities, despite their requests. During this time, the police interrogated each of them about the amount of money they carried, confiscating half of their funds. Additionally, they photographed and fingerprinted the group.

After spending an additional four hours in detention, they were loaded into a white police car with blue writing on the side. The officers then drove them to an undisclosed location in the forest, where they were left to navigate their way back in the rain, enduring a four-hour journey on foot.
