BVMN is looking for new Board members
October 06, 2025 | Statements |
The Border Violence Monitoring Network is looking for individuals to join its Board.
Our aim
To end border violence against people on the move. In solidarity with those affected, regardless of the reasons that motivate their migration and on the basis of anti-fascist and anti-racist values, we want to question existing border regimes, propose viable alternatives, and collect evidence to hold perpetrators and accomplices accountable. We also aim to educate people about human rights violations, raise awareness, and hold responsible institutions accountable.
Our structure
The BVM Network operates in a non-hierarchical self-organised fashion. Its work is mostly organised and coordinated within designated working groups.
The Role
The tasks of a Board Member are limited to:
-
Legally representing the Association
-
Calling the General Assembly, normally once a year.
The Executive Board consists of at least three members. They form the Executive Board within the meaning of § 26 BGB (German Civil Code).
The term of office of the members of the Executive Board is two years, with unlimited possibility of renewal. They remain in office until new members are elected.
The work of the Executive Board is supported by that of the Association Council, which is made of representatives of member organisations.
Members of the Board would be supported in their work by a Treasurer, who would be employed by the Network.
Key Responsibilities
Collectively, Board Members ensure:
-
Strategic oversight of the organization's aim and activities
-
Legal and ethical compliance with German law
-
Fiduciary oversight over financial resources
Remuneration
Unless the Board member is also an employee of the Network, it is expected that their contribution would be done on a voluntary basis. It is expected that the role would not take more than 5 hours of work per quarter.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate is someone with experience volunteering or working at the Network, or acting as a focal point for a member organisation for the Network. This person has a strong understanding of the intricacies of coordinating a non-hierarchical self-organised network such as BVMN, and is willing to maintain limited involvement in the day-to-day operations.
How to apply?
Applicants are asked to send:
-
A CV.
-
A short statement (no more than one page) explaining why you would like to join the Board, as well as details of your involvement in similar organisations and/or related activities, if any
