On Friday, the 11th March 2022, at around 10:00 p.m., a group of 14 people from Marocco and Tunisia got push-backed from Hungary to Serbia.

The respondent described that the group left the Serbian town of Horgos in the evening and crossed the border of Hungary, and then walked for two hours from the Hungarian border to the town of Szeged in Hungary.

Around Szeged, while crossing a street, the group encountered two cars and a bus with around 25 officers. The respondent described the clothes of the people as dark blue uniforms with balaclavas, a description which matches the uniforms of Hungarian officials.  The respondent suspects people of Pakistani nationals being inside the bus.

The respondent described Hungarian officers coming to the group and asking them to sit down while putting lights in their eyes. Then Hungarian officers asked the group about their nationalities.

“We said we are coming from Marocco and Tunisia. They said fuck Marocco and fuck Tunisia go back to your countries. We asked why they are saying bad words to us. They said when you cross our country you take our money“.

Then the respondent described that the Hungarian officers punch them on the body after they stand up.

“They took selfies of our face with them smiling“.

The respondent described the Hungarian officers asking them to come into the bus, they followed them and joined the other group of people on the move already on the bus. The whole group was driven to the border with Serbia and forced to cross the border back into Serbia. The respondent was unable to point out the concrete location of the pushback due to the high level of stress.

“When we were in the bus, other group of people were talking, so Hungarian officers puts pepper spray inside the bus. Then they drive the bus to the border, they opened the door and told us to go back to Serbia.“
