The respondent reports that he together with a friend left Velika Kladusa, BiH at around 2 pm in a transit attempt. Together, they crossed the border from Bosnia to Croatia not far from the official border crossing in Maljevac, Croatia. In Croatian territory, about 2 km from the border at around 4 pm they were seized by two men in dark blue uniforms wearing black ski masks. This description matches with the uniform normally worn by the Croatian Intervention police as well as the EPZ subunit.

According to the respondent the two men were yelling at them and cuffed them, pushing them onto the ground so that they were lying on their stomachs. The interviewee claims that he was kicked about four times by the uniformed men. He reports that even a week later he still felt pain and went to see a doctor. His friend was also kicked by the two men.

About 20 minutes later a police van arrived. In there were four policemen, with a light blue shirt and dark blue trousers as a uniform, a description matching the uniforms normally worn by the Granicna Policija, Croatian border police. According to the respondent they had to hand over their phones and two power banks before getting into the van. They were transported for about 15-20 minutes. Allegedly, the van was driven in a reckless way, with a lot of stops and gos, abrupt braking, sharp curves. A driving style, that the respondent assumes was intentional.

The van stopped and the respondent and his friend got out of the car. The policemen pointed in the direction of Bosnia and told them “Go, Go!”. The respondent and his friend went off, not daring to ask their personal belongings to be returned. They were dropped at a location about six kilometers away from Velika Kladusa’s center, about seven hours later from the time they had crossed the border earlier.
