Hungarian Police Beat Moroccan, Then Push Him Illegally Back to Serbia

At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, the respondent and his friend crossed from Serbia into Hungary near the Horgos-Roeszke border crossing. Both men were Moroccan and in their early thirties. After three days of walking, they arrived at what the respondent described as the third village in Hungary. (He did not remember its name.) They had no food and no water. They also had not eaten in three days and were very hungry, so the respondent went into the village to buy food. There he was caught by the police, and the respondent told them that his friend was in the wilderness without food and water. Meanwhile, the latter was staying in an abandoned house two or three km outside the village. The police came in two cars- one police car and one regular car, two policemen in each. The respondent described that the officers wore green clothes. They beat him five or six times. "For twenty minutes one policeman was stepping on my head, pinning it between his foot and the ground," he said. "They were laughing as they were beating me." They took his bag and emptied it, throwing everything on the ground. This took place on Saturday. They asked him his name and returned him to Horgos.
